They tell me that back in the Victorian times, when the Llangollen railway station was greeted by hoards of visitors disembarking from the steam trains, the sheepdog trials here were a spectacle to rival the Grand National. I'll take the comparison with a pinch of salt, but up in the Vivod hills, the event has been going on for over 100 years.

When I were a lad, One Man and His Dog had a prime-time slot in the BBC's schedule. The phrase "come bye" is about my only memory of it (my grandma used to watch it, but it bored me senseless at that age), but the phrase I walked away with after the events here were "that'll do". A perfectly British (Welsh?) response to a job well done.
